Microsoft has made an exciting announcement for Windows enthusiasts and developers alike. The tech giant has begun the rollout of the first preview build of Windows 11 version 24H2 to members of the Windows Insider Program, specifically those in the Dev and Canary Channels.

This development marks a significant transition for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, who will now start receiving builds from the 26000 series, moving on from the 23000 series builds they were previously accustomed to.

Windows 11 version 24H2 rolls out to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel and Canary Channel

As part of this rollout, Insiders in the Canary Channel will be getting their hands on Build 26052.1000, while those in the Dev Channel will receive Build 26052.1100 (KB5035384). Notably, both builds are identical, with the latter including a servicing update alongside the full build.

However, it's worth noting that this parity between the Canary and Dev Channels is only temporary. While they may be on the same builds for now, there will come a time when the Canary Channel progresses to higher build numbers, closing the window for Insiders in that channel to switch to the Dev Channel.

With the introduction of Build 26-xx, Windows Insiders in both the Canary and Dev Channels will observe an update in versioning under Settings > System > About (and winver), reflecting version 24H2. This designation signifies that Windows 11, version 24H2, will serve as this year’s annual feature update. This aligns with Microsoft's strategy to deliver an annual feature update for Windows 11 in the latter half of each calendar year.

This move underscores Microsoft's commitment to refining and enhancing the Windows experience through regular updates and improvements. By involving Windows Insiders in the testing and feedback process, Microsoft can ensure that the final release meets the needs and expectations of its user base.

As the development and rollout of Windows 11 version 24H2 progresses, both developers and users can look forward to experiencing the latest innovations and enhancements that Microsoft has to offer. With each iteration, Windows continues to evolve, offering a more secure, efficient, and user-friendly platform for work, creativity, and entertainment.
