Windows 10 May 2019 Update won't install on devices having small storage. Did you meet the minimum requirement?

Microsoft is doing the last minute preparation for the final release of Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version: 1903). If you are awaiting for this update, make sure that you are having enough storage space to install it on your system.

Microsoft updated the minimum hardware requirements that Windows 10 needs for successful installation. Windows 10 May 2019 Update won't install on systems having small disks.

Do you know?
Windows 10 May 2019 Update won't install if an external USB device or SD memory card is attached

Earlier it was a minimum storage requirement for 32-bit Windows 10 to have at least 16GB storage space to install on that system. For a 64-bit Windows 10, the minimum storage requirement was 20GB. But the minimum storage requirement has now bumped up. For both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 10, you will now need at least 32GB disk.

The minimum processor speed and RAM requirement remain unchanged. You will need a processor having a minimum of 1GHz speed. Minimum RAM requirement is still 1GB for 32-bit and 2GB for 64-bit version of Windows 10.

Notably, the minimum storage requirement for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise edition still remains at 16GB for 32-bit and 20GB for 64-bit versions of the operating system.

The extra storage requirement may be due to a new behavior "Reserved Space" that Microsoft is introducing with the Windows 10 May 2019 Update version 1903 (code named, 19H1), which ensures that the future updates install without any issues, by reserving a 7GB disk space for the updates.

If you don't meet the above requirement, your device won't be upgraded to the latest update and will stuck to Windows 10 version 1809 for the remaining support lifetime of that version. If you are having Windows 10 Home or Professional edition, the support lifetime will end on 12th May 2020. For the Education and Enterprise edition, the support lifetime will end on 11th May 2021.
