Cloud reset option coming soon to Windows 10 (20H1) - Microsoft previewed it with latest insiders build 18970

With the latest Windows 10 Insiders Preview Build 18970, Microsoft previewed cloud-reset option that's expected to release with next feature version of Windows 10 in early 2020. In the release note, Microsoft stated that it won't currently work if specific optional features are installed.

Introducing a new Reset this PC option - Cloud Download


  • Cloud-reset feature is a Recovery Option coming to Windows 10.
  • If you are a Windows Insider in the Fast ring, you can try out it with preview build 18970.
  • If you have certain optional features enabled, cloud-reset won't work at this moment.
  • It will reinstall the same build, version and edition of Windows 10.


Cloud Reset feature is a new Recovery Option in Windows 10, that will enable you to reset your PC by downloading Windows from the cloud. Based on the build installed on your system, the cloud download option will reinstall the same build, version and edition. Here's a demonstration of cloud recovery feature of Windows 10:



A point to note that the recovery operation will remove apps that you have installed. Apart from that, if you have selected the Remove everything option during the Reset this PC initiation, user data will also be deleted.


Microsoft also noted in the release note that the reset by cloud download feature won't work at present, if you have certain option features enabled on your system. This optional features includes EMS and SAC Toolset for Windows 10, IrDA infrared, Print Management Console, RAS Connection Manager Administration Kit (CMAK), RIP Listener, all RSAT tools, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Windows Fax and Scan, Windows Storage Management, Wireless Display, WMI SNMP Provider.
