As it is the second Tuesday of the month, it's time for patching all supported versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Being the first patch of the year, Microsoft now started rolling out the Windows 10 January 2023 Patch Tuesday (KB5022282) update for versions 20H2, 21H2, 22H2, and Windows 11 January 2023 Patch Tuesday (KB5022303 and KB5022287) update for version 21H2 and 22H2.

This version adds many security enhancements to the internal workings of the OS. The Windows 10 KB5022282 update addresses the following issues:

  • The Patch Tuesday release for today fixes problems with the Local Session Manager (LSM). These flaws may allow people without admin privileges to carry out operations that are only available to administrators.
  • Another issue where apps attempted to connect to databases using the SQL Server Driver for Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (sqlsrv32.dll) failed has been resolved.
  • Last but not least, this update fixes a problem that has been reported and could result in 0xc000021a blue screen crashes when some Windows devices boot.
