If you are using WhatsApp on Android, the company has now started rolling out the much awaited Fingerprint lock feature on it's latest stable version. This will allow you to add an extra layer of security, similar to banking applications, to your WhatsApp messages.

 

WhatsApp for Android receives Fingerprint Lock feature and here's how to enable it

 

  • WhatsApp received "Fingerprint Lock" feature on Android.
  • It is offering different lock settings within the app.
  • You need to explicitly enable the fingerprint lock.

 

Though the new update is not yet available in all regions, but once it arrives will provide you an option to add an extra layer of security to your WhatsApp messages by automatically locking the app. You need to use your already configured fingerprint to unlock the WhatsApp.

 

How to configure Fingerprint lock feature on WhatsApp?

Once you updated to the latest version, follow the steps mentioned below to configure the Fingerprint lock feature:

  1. Open the WhatsApp on your Android mobile.
  2. Navigate to Settings | Account | Privacy.
  3. Scroll down to find the Fingerprint lock settings. Navigate to it.
  4. Toggle on the settings that says Unlock with fingerprint. Now touch the fingerprint sensor to activate.
  5. Under Automatically lock section, there exists three radio options: Immediately, After 1 minute and After 30 minutes. Select the one that best suits your need.
  6. If you would like to show the content of the incoming messages in the notifications panel, toggle ON the settings labeled Show content in notifications. To hide the same, toggle OFF the settings.

 

 

How frequently you would like to lock your WhatsApp?

WhatsApp currently provided three options to automatically lock the application. If you select Immediately, it will lock if you switch to any other app. This is the most secure settings, but will ask you to authenticate yourself with your fingerprint. In other case, for a less secure account, you can select After 1 minute or After 30 minutes.
