Microsoft recently released the first build of Windows 11 (Beta) Preview to the Windows Insiders Beta Channel. This build was released to the Dev Channel last week. Microsoft confirms that no new build will be pushed to the insiders in the Dev Channel. That means at least this week both Dev and Beta channel insiders will be having the same build running.

So, what does it mean? As both Dev and Beta channel users are now having the same build, users can now switch from the Dev Channel to Beta in order to receive a more stable Windows 11 build in the future.

How to switch from Windows 11 Insiders Dev Channel to Beta Channel

When your current build number is higher than the build number in the channel where you want to switch, you will need to perform a clean installation of Windows on that device. But when both are equal, or you are running a build lower than the build number in the channel you want to switch, you can safely switch without performing a clean installation.

As we are now having the same Windows 11 build number in both Dev Channel (22000.100) and Beta Channel (22000.100), insiders can now switch from Dev to Beta without performing a clean installation.

How to switch from Windows Insiders Dev Channel to Beta Channel

To switch your insiders' channel from the Dev to Beta, follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Open Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program.
  • Select "Choose your Insider settings".
  • Select the desired "Beta Channel (Recommended)".
  • The next time you receive an update, it will be for your new channel.
