Microsoft announced the general availability of the new Microsoft Edge (Chromium) Tools for Visual Studio Code extension, which clubs two experimental extensions (Elements and Network), will now allow you to see what your code generates, and debug the code without switching between editor and browsers.

Microsoft released a new Windows 10 Preview Build to the Windows Insiders in the Dev channel. The new build 20226 comes from the rs_prerelease branch, which is where the new features show up first. With this build, Microsoft is rolling out multiple improvements to Windows 10, including one new feature to the Storage settings page.

Earlier this month, Microsoft started rolling out a new feature called "Web Capture" to a very limited set of Edge Insiders in the Canary build. As the name suggests, the feature adds the ability to capture a screenshot of a website from the browser without using any 3rd party tool. You can then copy the image to the clipboard, or save it to disk.

Microsoft has confirmed that a new standalone version of Microsoft Office for both Windows and Mac will be released for the consumers in the second half of 2021. As that will come with a perpetual license, you won't need to pay any subscription charges other than a one-time purchase fee.

Microsoft released a new Windows 10 build to the Windows Insiders, who are in the Dev channel. The latest insiders preview build 20221 brings the "Meet Now" icon to the Windows 10 Taskbar, giving you easy access to create a new meeting, or join an existing meeting through a link/access code.

 

The build also adds updates to Your Phone notifications, a couple of fixes, and changes to the Dev channel. If you are a Windows Insider, check for updates to get this build.

GitHub users can now run an entire GitHub workflow from the terminal. Microsoft owned GitHub announces GitHub CLI version 1.0, which was there in Beta since February 2020. With this, you can now call the GitHub API to script and create workflows without having to switch your terminal sessions.

Windows 10 October 2020 Update (version 20H2) reached the next milestone. Windows 10 build 19042.508 (KB4571756) is now rolling out to the Windows Insiders who are in the Release Preview Channel to get it checked before the company promotes it to the general public.

Microsoft announces that the company is planning to add support for Android and iOS in .NET 6. The next major version of .NET (i.e. .NET 5.0, currently in Release Candidate 1) is going to be shipped in November 2020, and .NET 6 will be shipped in November 2021 as an LTS (Long Term Support).

 

If you are an application developer, you should know Microsoft's plan on releasing the next versions of .NET, and the support for Android, iOS platforms. Conversely, they will stop supporting platforms that are no longer relevant.
